Who may carry out an inspection in Czechia
In the Czech Republic, an inspection of electrical equipment may only be carried out by an inspection technician holding a certificate of professional competence. The certificate is issued by the Czech Technical Inspection (TIČR) after a successful exam and is valid for 5 years.
The inspection must also be provided by a company or sole trader holding an authorisation under Act No. 250/2021 Coll. A foreign certificate on its own is not enough. Qualifications obtained in another EU or EEA state or in Switzerland must first be recognised or verified by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
The operator of the equipment is responsible for who carries out the inspection – including a foreign company that operates equipment in the Czech Republic.

Frequently asked questions
Can our technician from abroad carry out the inspection?
Only if the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs recognises or verifies his or her qualification and the inspection is provided by a company holding an authorisation under Czech law. A foreign certificate on its own is not enough.
How do I check that an inspection technician holds a valid certificate?
Ask for the certificate number. It is also stated in every inspection report. The register of inspection technicians and authorised companies is kept by the Czech Technical Inspection.
What are the consequences of a missing inspection?
A periodic inspection within the set interval is an obligation of the operator of designated electrical equipment. Without it you risk a penalty at an inspection (supervision is carried out by the labour inspectorate) and problems with an insurance claim.
We are only tenants. Do we have to deal with the inspection?
If you operate the equipment, yes. The operator is responsible for proper operation even when not the owner. It is advisable to settle in the lease who arranges and pays for the inspection.
Does the inspection also cover tools and appliances?
No. Hand tools, appliances and extension leads are not designated electrical equipment. We inspect and check them separately under ČSN 33 1600 ed. 2.
