What an inspection report is
A document that confirms the condition of the electrical installation on the day of the inspection. It is prepared by an inspection technician with a certificate for the relevant scope. It is not a form to be ticked off, but an expert opinion that the technician stands behind personally, with their own name.
What an inspection report contains
- Identification of the building, the installation and the client
- Scope of the inspection and the documents used
- Standards applied and measuring instruments used
- Measured values
- Faults found, with a reference to the breached clause of the standard
- Conclusion: the installation is, or is not, capable of safe operation
- Recommended date of the next inspection
How long an inspection report is valid
A report has no best-before date: it documents the condition of the equipment on the day of the inspection and contains a recommended date of the next inspection. For companies and other operators, the maximum intervals are set by Annex 4 of Government Decree No. 190/2022 Coll.; the technician may recommend shorter ones.
After work on the installation or a renovation, the affected part is inspected again and a new report on that part is added to the original one.
Who to show the inspection report to
- The insurer – in case of damage after a short circuit, fire or overvoltage
- The building authority – for occupancy approval of a new or renovated building
- The distributor (ČEZ Distribuce, EG.D, PREdistribuce) – when connecting or modifying a metering point or a power plant
- The bank – for a mortgage, if it requires it
- Supervisory bodies and auditors
- A buyer or tenant who is reasonably asking
Is there a template for an inspection report?
There is no mandatory official form. What a report must contain is set by Section 10 of Government Decree No. 190/2022 Coll. and ČSN 33 2000-6 (whose Annex E has non-binding sample forms). What matters is the content, not the font. We agree the form of the report (on paper, or electronically with a recognised electronic signature) when you order.
Frequently asked questions
Who may issue an inspection report?
An inspection technician with a valid certificate under Act No. 250/2021 Coll. for the scope of the given inspection. Inspections may, however, only be carried out by a company or entrepreneur authorised under Section 8 of the same Act.
Does the distributor, for example ČEZ, need an inspection report?
When connecting a power plant or after modifying a metering point, the distributor usually requires it. Specific requirements and procedures change from distributor to distributor, so check them before submitting your application.
Is an inspection report the same as an inspection protocol?
Colloquially people often say so, but the regulations use the name "inspection report" and set its content. Beware of mixing it up with other protocols, such as the protocol of external influences – that is a different document.
What if the report contains faults?
The faults are removed and the repair can be verified by a new inspection. The original report is not changed; only a new report speaks for the condition after the repair.
