How often to inspect: overview of intervals on one page

Inspections have deadlines like yoghurts, just look at the right table. An overview for electrical installations, lightning protection, PV, wallboxes, appliances and construction sites.

Electrical equipment under Annex 4 of Government Decree 190/2022 Coll.

These are the longest permitted intervals, binding on operators – companies, entrepreneurs and organisations; the technician may recommend shorter ones. If several intervals apply to an installation, the shortest one applies. The inspection is carried out in the year in which the interval falls (this does not apply to intervals of up to one year).

  • Buildings used for administrative activity – 5 years
  • Buildings for production, education (schools), accommodation and medical purposes – 3 years
  • Buildings which, under the fire safety solution, allow more than 200 people to be present – 2 years
  • Areas with a risk of fire and explosion – 3 years
  • Wet areas and areas with permanent presence of corrosive or polluting substances – 1 year
  • Mobile and transportable equipment – 1 year
  • Temporary construction-site installations – half a year

Lightning protection

  • LPS protecting other buildings – full inspection every 4 years (for a family house it is more of a recommendation)
  • LPS protecting critical systems – every 2 years
  • Visual check that the lightning protection is not visibly damaged – at least once a year

Appliances and hand tools (ČSN 33 1600 ed. 2 with amendment Z2)

  • Rented appliances and tools – before each issue, then according to the usage group
  • Outdoors and on construction sites – class I hand tools 3 months, others 6 months
  • Industry and workshops indoors – class I hand tools 6 months, class II and III 12 months, others 24 months
  • Publicly accessible areas and administration – hand-held appliances 12 months, others 24 months (these are the intervals of repeated tests; repeated inspections under amendment Z2 are four times as long)

PV and wallboxes

There is no separate interval for photovoltaic power plants and charging stations. An initial inspection is required before commissioning; periodic inspections follow the environment and use of the building under Annex 4 and the manufacturer's instructions.

Electrical installations in flats

Periodic inspections of flats are not prescribed, but the standard considers them appropriate, especially when the owner or tenants change; it gives a longer interval, for example ten years. For equipment operated in business, the intervals from Annex 4 apply.

How not to forget

You will find the date of the next inspection in the inspection report. Take a photo of it and put it in your calendar so you don't miss it years from now. Or let us watch your deadlines for free.

Frequently asked questions

Which interval applies when several intervals apply to the equipment?

The shortest one. For example, in a wet area of an office building the interval is one year, not five.

How often is a lightning protection system inspected?

A full inspection once every 4 years, for critical systems once every 2 years. A visual check that the lightning protection is not visibly damaged is carried out at least once a year.

What if I miss the inspection date?

Equipment without a valid inspection is a risk: after damage the insurer may ask about it and, for companies, so may the labour inspectorate. Have the inspection done as soon as possible.

Where do I find the intervals for my specific building?

In Annex 4 of Government Decree No. 190/2022 Coll. and in the inspection report. If you are not sure, we will advise: just describe the building and how it is used.
