How to become an electrical inspection technician

Fancy checking circuit breakers and being thanked for it? Requirements, exams and preparation for a career as an inspection technician.

What an inspection technician does

An inspection technician inspects, measures and assesses electrical equipment and issues an inspection report on it. Their signature is what insurers, building authorities and distributors take seriously.

Qualification and authorisation

An inspection technician must hold a certificate of professional competence under Section 11 of Act No. 250/2021 Coll. It is granted by the Czech Technical Inspectorate (TIČR) after a successful exam and is valid for 5 years. Prerequisites include relevant education and experience; for the E2A scope, under Government Decree No. 194/2022 Coll., that is at least 4 years. Inspections may only be carried out by a company or entrepreneur authorised under Section 8 of the Act – anyone working on their own needs both the certificate and the authorisation. Check the current conditions with TIČR.

Which exams exist

  • E2A – low-voltage electrical equipment (up to 1 kV AC / 1.5 kV DC) including lightning protection, in areas without a risk of explosion
  • E3A – lightning and surge protection only (lightning conductors), in areas without a risk of explosion
  • B (e.g. E2B, E3B) – the same scopes for areas with a risk of explosion

How to prepare

We hold preparatory courses for the E2A, E3A and B exams, in person and online. We focus on legislation, inspection procedure, measurement and diagnostics.

And how much does one earn?

We will not promise numbers: earnings depend on the region, the volume of work and whether you are employed or run your own business. What is certain is that for companies and many installations inspections are mandatory, so demand for them does not fade.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, in person and online. We prepare you for the E2A, E3A and B exams (areas with a risk of explosion).

What is the difference between E2A and E3A?

E2A covers low-voltage electrical equipment including lightning protection, E3A only lightning and surge protection. The letter A means areas without a risk of explosion (Annex 5 of Government Decree No. 190/2022 Coll.).

Who may issue an inspection report?

Only an inspection technician with a valid certificate under Act No. 250/2021 Coll. for the relevant scope, who works for a company or as an entrepreneur authorised to carry out inspections.
