Why tools on a construction site have the shortest intervals
Hand-held electric tools are held in the hand, dragged along the ground, dropped and used in dust and damp. ČSN 33 1600 ed. 2 therefore gives the shortest intervals precisely to outdoor environments (group B) and to craft workshops (group C).
Intervals by group of use
You can tell the protection class from the rating plate: the double-square symbol means class II (double insulation), an appliance with a protective conductor (earthing pin) is class I.
- Group B (outdoors, construction sites): hand-held tools of class I every 3 months, class II and III every 6 months; other appliances every 6 months
- Group C (industry and crafts indoors): hand-held tools of class I every 6 months, class II and III every 12 months; other appliances every 24 months
- For tools used more than 250 hours a year an even shorter interval is recommended
What is measured on a tool
- Inspection of the housing, cord, plug, switch and marking
- For class I, protective conductor resistance (at most 0.2 Ω for a cord up to 3 m, plus 0.1 Ω for each further 3 m started, at most 1 Ω)
- Insulation resistance at 500 V DC: according to Table 2 of ČSN 33 1600 at least 2 MΩ for hand-held class I and 7 MΩ for hand-held class II
- Leakage current and operation test
How to manage it without stopping work
- Mark your tools with identification numbers and put them on a list – the inspection is then quick
- Arrange one date for the whole company or site; we inspect on the spot
- You receive the dates of the next inspection in the printout, and date tracking reminds you when they are approaching
How much it costs
Approximately from 39 CZK per item (above 20 items 39 to 90 CZK per item, volume discount), a single item 80 to 140 CZK, a flat rate up to 20 items 1,100 to 2,500 CZK. We prepare a quote once the number of items and the location are clarified.
Frequently asked questions
How often are drills and grinders inspected on a construction site?
Hand-held tools of class I outdoors (group B) every 3 months, tools of class II and III every 6 months. In workshops (group C) class I every 6 months and class II and III every 12 months.
How do I know whether a tool is class I or II?
From the tool's rating plate. The double-square symbol denotes class II (double insulation). Appliances of class I have a cord with a protective conductor (an earthing pin in the plug).
Do I have to stop work on the site during the inspection?
No. We inspect on the spot and agree the date in advance so that the tools are unavailable for as short a time as possible.
